Birthday Bash

On Saturday, March 28th, 2009, DJ Brazão will celebrate his 30th birthday with an array of guest artists at Club Terra Terra (Joe Angelo’s) in Brockton, MA.

Scheduled to perform during this birthday bash are Holland-based artists Nelson Freitas, DJ NSB (Nos Manera) and David Brazão and local artists such as Amarildo Johvanny, Assassino as well as DJ Brazão.

This will be the first time David Brazão will perform in the United States. He is best known for hit songs such as Nha Memoria, Muda Sistema, Coração Intende, and Nha Amada.

Club Terra Terra (Joe Angelo’s) is located at 11 Crescent Street in Brockton. Proper dress is required.

Kaysha in Cape Verde

African singer/producer Kaysha is currently in Cape Verde for two concerts in support of his recently released record “Forever Young.”

Kaysha will perform today (3/6th) at Discoteca Sonho D´Ontem in Santa Cruz, followed by another show at Espaço Cockpit in Praia on Saturday, March 7th.

A native of Congo, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo), Kaysha is currently one of the most recognizable African musicians.  Known mostly for his groovy sound--mixture of Zouk, African and Caribbean music--Kaysha has produced records for Capeverdean artists such as Mika Mendes, Elizio, and Looney among others.

A winner of the prestigious Kora Awards, including Best African Artist, Kaysha has released hit albums such as It Is All Love (2003), African Bohemian (2004), and Legendary (2006). He has also worked with the likes of Jean Michel Rotin, Soumia, Teeyah, and Jocelin Demoumeaux.

Nelson Freitas and Kaysha at Aula Magna

On Sunday, March 8th, 2008, singers Nelson Freitas and Kaysha, two of the biggest stars on the Zouk music scene, are scheduled to perform in Lisbon, Portugal.
 
The pair will take part in Concerto de Solidariedade ás Comunidades Africanas, a major solidarity concert to benefit the African Communities, which will take place at Aula Magna.

Organized by Pantera Eventos, the objective of this event is to raise and donate funds to a major institution. The event will also include art display, dance, theater and other performances. Various student associations will take part in this event. 

The event is sponsored by Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, Universidade Lusófona, Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão, Instituto Superior de Ciência do Trabalho e da Empresa, and RDP among others.

The show is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. (local time).

Mika Mendes to perform in the U.S.

Paris-based Capeverdean singer Mika Mendes will be in the United States in March to perform some of his greatest hits during two live shows.

On Friday, March 6th, 2009, Mika will unveil his Zouk/R&B infused style at Club Morabeza in Brockton, MA, followed by another show at Teresa Restaurant in Kissimmee, Florida, on Saturday, March 7th, 2009. 

Presented by Primo Entertainment and TT Entertainment, the show at Morabeza will also feature newcomer Ana Teixeira.

A native of Nice, France, Mika, the son of legendary singer/guitarist Gerard “Boy Gé” Mendes, has already reached success here in the U.S. with “Criola,” “Dimensão,” and “Linda Bo E,” songs part of his album “New Style” released last year.

Célia: The new voice

Capeverdean singer Célia Levy is set to reissue her debut album “Um flor especial” (Special Flower) in the fall 2009.

Originally released this past summer, “Um flor especial” draws heavily influences on Zouk, Reggaeton, Kizomba, Samba, R&B and pop Rock, all produced by the likes of Manu Lima, Philippe Monteiro, Loran, Djoy Delgado, Roger, Thierry Doumergue, Eddy Goyor, Danny Lavital, Constância, and JAY (Gé l’ingé) who has produced Wyclef Jean, Lynnsha and La MC Malcriado.

On this record, Célia, who currently resides in Paris, France, collaborated with artists such as Dyce, Mariza, Kaysha, Roger and Hams.

A native of Lisbon, Portugal, Célia possesses compelling vocals, which is expressive and energetic. She started her singing career as a backup singer for artists such as Kaysha, La MC Malcriado, Elisio, Sweetness, and Reydem among others.

Gilyto Semedo in Concert

Singer Gilyto Semedo will introduce his new song “Em Silencio (te Gosto)” (In Silence, I love you) at during a show (Kizomba & Funana) at Salão Do Povo Sines in Portugal, on Saturday, February 14th, 2009.

Gilyto will sing “Em Silencio (te Gosto)” in a duet with Portuguese singer-dancer Rakel Ribeiro, who also shares the writing credits with Gilyto on this love tune.  “Em Silencio (te Gosto)” is the first track off Gilyto’s upcoming record, which is scheduled for this summer.

Special guests Kido and Danny S. will also feature on this show, which will be animated by DJ Black. The show is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. (local time).

Johnny Ramos at Club Morabeza

On Friday, February 13th, 2009, singer Johnny Ramos will perform live during a Valentine’s Day Bash at Club Morabeza in Brockton, MA.

Johnny, a Rotterdam-based singer, first emerged as a vocalist in 1996 on the debut album of singer Milena with the duet “Ilusao.” In 1997, he released “Mobass Presents” followed by a brief stint with the band Splash, with whom he released the album “Nha Terra K’tchuva.” 
 
In 2004, following the introduction of his first solo record entitled “Só Jota,” Johnny was nominated for the 10th Edition of the Kora All Africa Music Awards in the category of Best West African Male Artist.

Johnny recently released his new album, The Future, for Holland-based Just Jay Records.

Presented by Primo Entertainment and TT Entertainment, the show will also feature music by DJ Master J.

Netos de Cabral in Concert

The very popular group Netos de Cabral (NDC) will perform at Hall Irbicht in Luxembourg on Saturday, February 21, 2009, during a mega show presented by NDC Records and Comite Spencer ASBL.

Scheduled to appear on stage are artists such as Djenio Semedo, Kidy, Jennifer, Paulo K, Eddy Mafia, DC Brown, Unity Caps, Mil’$, Moda Sky, Estefania, Laara, Monica, and DJ Tecas as well as dancers Lumi and Marguetinha. NKM and Nostalgia de Cabo Verde will be the opening acts.

Originally from Paris, France, these young Capeverdean artists have performed in Europe’s top cities, including Rotterdam, Lisbon, Nice, Paris, and now Luxembourg.  The group debuted with Netos de Cabral: Unidade e Luta (Unity and struggle) in 2006, followed by Midnight in 2008.
